About This Program
The Find Your Roots Program was created as a bridge for reconnection, restoration, and remembrance between Sierra Leone and members of the African diaspora seeking to reconnect with their ancestral homeland. This 10-day immersive experience combines guided heritage tours, cultural ceremonies, community engagement, and personalized consultations to help participants explore their Sierra Leonean roots.
Program Context
At this time, the formal reparative justice and citizenship pathway connected to this initiative remains under governmental review and policy development. While the broader framework is still in draft form, the Government of Sierra Leone has publicly stood in solidarity with other like-minded nations in recognizing the lasting impact of the transatlantic slave trade.
Sierra Leone, as one of the nations directly impacted by the transatlantic slave trade, joined the global call at the United Nations to acknowledge the transatlantic slave trade as one of the most heinous crimes against humanity. This position reflects a growing international movement centered on remembrance, dignity, reconnection, and restorative engagement with the African diaspora.
While the official policy surrounding reparative justice, repatriation, and expanded citizenship frameworks continues to evolve, Salone Hidden Gems remains committed to assisting participants with the foundational first-visit experience and cultural immersion requirements associated with reconnecting to Sierra Leone.
