How It All Began
Salone Hidden Gems was born from a simple but powerful belief: Sierra Leone is one of Africa's most breathtaking, culturally rich, and historically significant destinations — yet it remains largely undiscovered by the world.
Founded in 2022 by Aminata Sesay, a passionate Sierra Leonean who grew up watching tourists overlook her homeland in favour of more ‘popular’ African destinations, Salone Hidden Gems set out to change that narrative. Aminata, together with a team of seasoned local guides, cultural historians, and travel specialists, began crafting immersive, responsible, and deeply personal travel experiences.
Today, we have taken hundreds of travellers from across the globe into the heart of Sierra Leone — from the pristine beaches of the Freetown Peninsula to the lush rainforests of the Gola National Park, from the cultural markets of Kenema to the historic landmarks of Bo and Makeni.
