Sample Itinerary

(10 days, 7 nights)

Day 1 - Departure US (travels)

Departure US, flights to Lungi, Sierra Leone

Day 2 – Freetown

Welcome to Sierra Leone!! Arrival at Lungi International Airport. Claim luggage and clear customs. We will be there to escort and transfer to Freetown via water transportation. The escort of escorts will stay with you until you reach the Lodge. A small meet and greet upon your arrival with food and drinks officially welcoming you to Freetown.

Day 3 – No.2 River Beach/ Griot

A day of relaxation at one of the finest beaches in Sierra Leone. The perfect way to unwind after a long flight. Dinner will be served as we listen to a local griot providing knowledge on the country and the historical sites we will visit.

Day 4 – KeKe Tour (downtown Freetown)

We will take a scenic tour downtown using a KeKe. We will take a stroll and visit many of the
places that the early settlers called home. If you are looking for souvenirs the Big Market will be the place to dust off your bargain skills. You will have a free evening after dinner to explore on your own.

Day 5 - York Village tour

York is a distinctly Krio village with rich history through the village also comprises of various other tribes. Before the liberated slaves' arrival, the Sherbro were settled in the area, and the village was called Mimi. York village is over 200 years old, predominantly Christian with old churches and beautiful layout and fauna. York is also the rural district headquarters for the region. (VSL – Visit Sierra Leone website) You will enjoy a free evening after dinner.

Day 6 – Fourah Bay College/Cultural Dances

We will visit one of the first colleges in Western Africa where people from all over came to learn. FBC is a public university in the neighborhood of Mount Aureol. Founded February 18, 1827. During dinner,  the Sierra Leone national dance troop will grace us with cultural dances, and of course, they need volunteers to join them, so do not forget your dancing shoes. I have often wondered about our culture and traditions before slavery. The traditional celebrations for birth, marriage, and death, which we have lost our connection to. We will be a part of the traditions for one night, and maybe you can take a  tradition home to your family to start anew.

Day 7 – Bunce Island

We will go on an all-day journey to the largest British slave castle on the Rice Coast of West Africa. The point of no return for many of our ancestors. This is an all-day trip. We will return to the lodge with a  free evening.

Day 8 – Do Whatcha Like/Festive farewell dinner.

Free day in Freetown, you can choose to visit our famous chimpanzee sanctuary, Grand Leone Casino, or maybe you want to grab last-minute souvenirs from the Big Market. Just be back in time for dinner. Our last night together will be a night of fun; a special performer will stop by with the initials M.J. to join in on the festive mood.
